The Econse MBR system treats the lagoon outfall—water that has already gone through the existing year-long treatment process. This additional treatment produces high-quality effluent suitable for direct discharge. At this point in the process, Econse has helped manage increased contamination and enabled Batavia to meet current wastewater regulations.
Econse MBR reduces phosphorus, total suspended solids, and biological oxygen demand (BOD) to meet—and often exceed—today’s wastewater standards.
However, instead of allowing this treated water to simply wash away, it is now returned upstream to the headworks. This water, treated to levels less contaminated than existing stream water, re-enters the treatment system. So the city’s treated water no longer disappears downstream. Instead, their water supply is replenished to meet growing demand and offset drought conditions.
During the pilot phase of this project, Econse MBR will return 10,000+ gallons of water per day to Batavia’s water supply.
“The City of Batavia explored many options for updating their infrastructure, but the time and costs involved were daunting. We brought a solution that was significantly more affordable and could be implemented in weeks not years. The best part is that Econse MBR will easily scale past the pilot program, providing treatment capacity that allows for future business and community growth.”
